Yes, we love Italian sausage because the flavor it packs into just one simple ingredient, but here are a few more ways to make these recipes work for your busy schedule:
Italian sausage can be cooked fully in advance and refrigerated for up to 4 days or frozen up to 4 months. You can cook and freeze whole links, slices or crumbles so they work with any recipe!
Italian sausage also works great when frozen in meals prepped ahead: pasta bakes, lasagnas, and spaghetti sauce are some of our favorites. We love to make a double batch and freeze one for a hectic week.
What pairs well with Italian sausage?
This may seem obvious but we love Italian sausage with other Italian flavors.
Italian sausage is typically seasoned with fennel, salt, pepper, garlic and paprika, so we often add additional herbs like basil or oregano and if you like things extra spicy red chili flakes are a good addition.
We often pair it with ground beef or ground pork to add extra flavor!
Italian sausage works well in recipes with beans, pasta, rice, potatoes, lentils and more, because they are neutral bases that soak up all of the flavors in the sausage.
What’s the best way to cook Italian sausage:
There are so many ways and each method is good for a different reason!
The air fryer, oven and skillet can give a crisp, golden exterior and juicy bite. The slow cooker cooks hands off but the exterior will have less of a snap.
It all just depends on how you prefer it to be cooked and what you are using it in! All of the recipes above include specific cooking instructions for Italian sausage.
