These Chicken Soup Recipes are the perfect comfort food recipes when the temperatures dip! They’re easy to prepare and full of flavor and lean protein.

You only have to be hanging out around here for about 5 minutes to understand how I feel about cozy soups.
Soup is the ultimate comfort food, and honestly one of my favorite meals any time of the year!
I love how easy it is to get a complete meal, with vegetables, carbs and protein, in one pot, and have all that incredible flavor.
So here is my list of our go-to chicken soups! Find more tips and tricks down below the list.
It’s hard to go wrong with classic Chicken Noodle Soup! I’m pretty sure this one can heal almost any ailment you throw at it (I like to add a bit of turmeric which has so many health benefits, it’s a must for cold season!).
If you love Chicken Noodle Soup but you want to stray from the usual flavor suspects, this Italian-inspired version is rich and creamy and so flavorful.
Inspired by the popular restaurant version but — dare I say — so much better, with loads of tender chicken, vegetables and pillowy soft gnocchi. It’s rich and chunky, just how I like it!
If you’re looking to kick up the flavor a notch or two, this Chicken Tortilla Soup is full of southwest flavors, so top it off with tortilla strips, lime, sour cream, or jalapenos for extra kick if you want.
I think I could eat this chicken soup every day of the week and never tire of it! It’s simple but so flavorful, and a great gluten-free soup option if you can’t do noodles.
I have to admit, I thought my kids might be resistant to the idea of citrus in their soup but they loved this one! I put half of a lemon into a juicer and let them squeeze their own juice into their bowls to control the flavor.
If you’re looking for something nourishing as well as comforting, this chicken soup recipe is loaded with veggies and protein. It has a tomato-y broth that is perfect served with some Garlic Bread for dunking.
This soup speaks to my carb-loving soul, with loads of plump, tender homemade dumplings (they’re easy, I promise!). No bread required!
When chicken alone isn’t enough, we have this chicken rice soup with bacon. The bacon gives us the fat to saute our vegetables (hello flavor!) and adds a lovely smoky flavor to the finished dish.
Barley is one of my favorite grains to use in soup, because it’s so hearty and has this delightful chewy texture. I find it holds up better in the fridge and after freezing too, making this soup a great prep ahead option.
When regular noodles just won’t do, there’s this chicken soup with tortellini. The tortellini add the most delightful, plump bite to the soup, filled with just a hint of that cheesy flavor. To mix things up, choose tortellini that has other fillings as well.
I love soup of all kinds (you know that!) but taco soups have my heart. They are perfect for warming up with a bit of extra spice, and it’s so fun to load them up with your favorite taco toppings.
Traditional comfort food in soup form becomes the coziest meal you could possibly make. You can top this soup with homemade biscuits, biscuits from a tube, pie crust rounds or crackers if you just don’t have it in you to turn on the oven.
Like an extra, extra saucy lasagna that’s perfect for breadstick dunking, this White Chicken Lasagna Soup is full of all those familiar flavors but made in one pot.
A classic made creamy, this soup is for those that are always adding a hit of cream to their bowls of chicken noodle soup.
Wild rice is underutilized, if you ask me. It takes a little longer to cook than your typical white rice chicken soup, but it adds a delicious nutty flavor and pop of color.
Yes, we’ve seen a couple variations of this one already but the classic will always be our go-to. Easily gluten and dairy free so this one is a favorite of ours for entertaining!
If you love the classics but don’t want to stir a pot on the stove, here are some of our favorites with a slow cooker method. You can cook the noodles right in the slow cooker!
This crockpot version is made in one pot and cooks mostly hands off, so it’s perfect for busy days!
You saw that creamy Chicken Noodle Soup but want a crockpot version? I got you. You won’t believe how easy this one is!
What to serve with chicken soup:
I mean, bread, obviously, right? Here are some of our favorite things to dunk!
- Garlic Bread or Cheesy Garlic Bread if you’re feeling a little extra.
- Some crusty No Knead Artisan Bread — which I promise is easier than you think.
- Homemade Dinner Rolls or some of Mom’s Homemade Buns (they really are the best!).
- Feeling fancy? This Brioche Bun recipe is extra rich with the perfect golden sheen!
What kind of chicken should I use?
We usually use boneless, skinless chicken breasts because they’re lean, and shred easily. I know they’re going to stay juicy so I’m not too worried about choosing an option with more fat.
Boneless, skinless chicken thighs will work just as well in these recipes! We’re just less likely to have them on hand.
I don’t recommend add bone-in or skin-on chicken to the pot when making chicken soup recipes, but if you have leftovers Perfect Roast Chicken, Slow Cooker Chicken Thighs, or even Crockpot Shredded Chicken, you can absolutely use that instead. Add cooked chicken near the end of the cook time just to reheat.
