There have been plenty of times in the midst of winter I have wondered why on Earth we live in Manitoba, where winter can last nearly half the year and the beginning of Spring on March 20 is a dream that is not usually fulfilled. There have also been plenty of times we get a fresh dumping of snow on May long weekend and I, again, wonder what we are doing here.
But I think part of the reason we love it (other than the fact that all of our family is here) is because we enjoy the changing of the seasons. I often wonder how we could truly appreciate the coming of Spring if we didn’t suffer those often horribly long winters. I don’t think I really would!
So when Spring finally rolls around here (much, much later than the rest of the world most years), we are desperate for fresh air and fresh produce. And I like to think we appreciate both of those much more than if we had them year round! (Not that we don’t have fresh air year round, but being able to crack the windows for the first time and let that Spring air sweep through the house? Amazing!).
This year, however, we’ve had an incredibly mild winter and, though I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high, I am hopeful that Spring is here to stay!
