One pan Swedish Meatballs and Noodles is a recipe that I can’t seem to stop making! It just checks all the right boxes – it’s quick, easy, homemade and comes together in just one pan.
There are three elements of this dish that make it so incredible. The filling beef meatballs, the tender egg noodles and the beefy, creamy sauce. Everything comes together to create the most incredibly comforting dinner (everyone at our table agrees!).
While this dinner fills you up after just one serving, it’s so good that you’ll still want to go back for more. Aren’t those the very best meals?

Swedish Meatballs and Noodles Ingredients:
- Meatballs: Homemade Meatball Recipe or Turkey Meatballs are great homemade options. Frozen meatballs are the easiest route to take (and there’s no shame in a shortcut!)
- Broth: Low sodium beef broth is the way to go! That way, you can add more salt as needed and better control how much sodium is in the dish.
- Egg Noodles: use dry, uncooked egg noodles for this recipe – not fresh or frozen. I have not personally tried this recipe with any other type of noodle. If you do choose another noodle, note that they’ll require a different cook time.
- Garlic: Feel free to measure with your heart! Add more or less as you see fit.
- Cornstarch: This is the thickening agent that creates the best creamy sauce.
- Cream: Heavy cream is what you’ll need for the best thick and rich consistency for the sauce.
- Dried Herbs: I like to use both parsley and thyme for the best pop of herbaceous flavor.
- Worcestershire Sauce: It wouldn’t be Swedish meatballs without this ingredient!
- Salt and Pepper: To taste.
How to make Swedish Meatballs and Noodles

- Combine meatballs, beef stock or broth, cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, parsley, salt, thyme and pepper in a deep skillet.
- Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Stir the egg noodles into the creamy mixture.
- Cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer just until al dente. Stir once in a while.
- To thicken the creamy sauce, simply stir together equal parts corn starch and water and stir into the skillet while cooking, stirring vigorously until thickened.
Variations and Substitutions
- Change the meatballs: You can use any type of meatball you like best in this easy recipe! To save some time, I typically just use frozen beef meatballs.
- Thicken the sauce: This step is entirely optional. If you find that the creamy sauce is already thick enough for you, you don’t need to stir in the cornstarch slurry at the end.
- Make it chicken: you can borrow the chicken meatball recipe here, and swap the beef broth for chicken broth for a new twist!
How to store Meatballs and Noodles
You can store your leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 2-3 days. Add a splash of broth or water, and reheat in the microwave for just 30 seconds at a time, stirring each time it stops, until warmed all the way through.
Note that the sauce may not be quite as creamy as it once was and the noodles may noticeably soften the longer they’re stored. You can always add a splash of cream to the sauce if needed!
Can I freeze Swedish Meatballs and Noodles?
Yes! However, it’s important to keep in mind that egg noodles are truly at their best when they’re first served. Once they’re cooked, frozen, thawed and reheated, they will be much softer.
Let the Swedish meatballs and noodles fully cool to room temperature prior to freezing in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Let everything defrost in the fridge for a few hours prior to reheating.
Serving suggestions:
I love serving Swedish Meatballs and Noodles with something on the lighter side to help balance everything out! Some of my favorite sides include Air Fryer Broccoli, Cheesy Baked Asparagus and Roasted Vegetables.

Ingredients
- 1 lb beef meatballs (store bought frozen or homemade)
- 3 cups low sodium beef broth
- ¾ cup half and half or heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
- 3 cups extra broad egg noodles (about 140 grams)
- 1-2 tablespoons corn starch (optional)
Instructions
- In a large deep skillet, combine meatballs, broth, cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, parsley, salt, thyme and pepper.
- Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.
- Add the egg noodles and stir to combine. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer just until al dente (about 10 minutes), stirring occasionally.
- To thicken sauce (if desired), stir together equal parts corn starch and water and stir into the skillet while cooking, stirring vigorously.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as desired. Serve.
Notes
- Meatballs: if you prefer to make meatballs from scratch, try my favorite. Homemade Meatball Recipe or these Turkey Meatballs for something lighter.
- Broth: I always start with low sodium broth and add salt as needed. If you’re using salted broth, I recommend omitting the added salt and adjusting as needed before serving.
- Egg noodles: use dry, uncooked egg noodles for this recipe (not fresh or frozen). I don’t recommend swapping for another pasta (although you can try!) as they all require different liquid amounts and cook times.

Hi Ashley, I made this tonight and had so much liquid left in the pan even after adding cornstarch? Iโm trying to figure out what I did wrong.

Hi Alex! Did it come back up to a simmer after adding the corn starch? The corn starch needs to boil to thicken, and it usually takes a few minutes to work completely. It also thickens quite a bit as it sits.

Hi, yes I let it simmer for quite some time. I even added a little more cornstarch.
I wound draining out the liquid and it still tasted good! Just trying to figure out my mistake ๐

I’m sorry that happened! Did you use fresh egg noodles, frozen, or dried? I use dried noodles, but the other two would not absorb as much moisture.
