This Bacon Wrapped Asparagus is one of my favorite ways to level up this basic vegetable, and it only uses 5 ingredients!

The bacon adds some smoky flavor to the asparagus, creating the perfect side dish for the holidays or whenever you want a restaurant-worthy meal.

You can make this recipe as is, or get creative with some extra flavors to make this recipe your own!

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Ingredients:

ingredients needed for bacon wrapped asparagus in bowls and plate.
  • Bacon: Thin-cut bacon crisps up faster and cooks at the same rate as the asparagus. Thick-cut takes too long and can cause the asparagus to be overcooked!
  • Fresh asparagus: Make sure to dry these well before adding the bacon so they crisp up and don’t steam.
  • Spices: A pinch of salt, pepper, and garlic powder adds savory flavor. You can swap these spices out for seasoning salt, garlic salt, smoked paprika, or any other seasonings you like!

How to make Bacon Wrapped Asparagus:

This Bacon Wrapped Asparagus will become an absolute favorite side dish that you’ll want to keep on repeat! Make sure to check the recipe card for the full list of instructions.

  • Slice each bacon strip lengthwise into thinner strips.
  • Place the wrapped stalks back on the baking sheet. Bake until the bacon is crisp and asparagus is tender.

Tip for the crispiest bacon:

For super crispy bacon, place the asparagus under the broiler for a minute or two. Just make sure it doesn’t burn!

How to store leftovers:

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus will last in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in the air fryer, oven, or on the stovetop.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon, (ideally not thick cut)
  • 1 lb fresh asparagus, (washed, dried, and trimmed) about 16 stalks
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  • Lay bacon flat on a parchment-lined baking sheet and place in the freezer for 20-30 minutes until nearly firm (this is optional, but makes it a lot easier to slice!).
  • Preheat the oven to 425℉.
  • Remove bacon from the freezer and slice lengthwise into 3 strips each. They will thaw in minutes and then you can continue with the recipe.
  • Wrap a piece of bacon around each piece of asparagus — you can do this as tightly or as loosely as you like, or use more than one strip as necessary.
  • Place back on the baking sheet and continue until each stalk is wrapped.
  • Combine the salt, garlic powder and pepper and sprinkle over asparagus.
  • Bake for about 20 minutes, turning half way, until the bacon is browned and crisp. Serve.

Notes

Ingredients and Substitutions:
Asparagus: you can swap this with green beans or a bundle of green beans! You can also use a bundle of 3-4 stalks of asparagus if you like it firmer, as they will not cook as quickly.
Bacon: I like to use regular thin cut bacon because it cooks more quickly and therefore does not overcook the asparagus.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Parmesan cheese: Sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on top right after cooking for a nutty finish.
  • Make it sweet: For a sweeter finish, sprinkle a little brown sugar or brush maple syrup on top before baking the Bacon Wrapped Asparagus.
  • Balsamic vinegar: Brush the Bacon Wrapped Asparagus in balsamic vinegar for a tangy twist.

Air Fryer option:

The air fryer is great for crisping up bacon quickly! Cook in a single layer at 400ºF for 7-8 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Make-ahead option:

You can prep and wrap the asparagus a few hours ahead and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to bake.
