Christmas Crack is made with buttery toffee poured over saltine crackers, topped with melted dark chocolate and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt. It’s dangerously easy to make and totally addictive!
Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and spray with nonstick spray. Preheat the oven to 375℉.
Lay crackers in a single layer on prepared baking sheet, breaking to fit if necessary.
In a medium saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar. Melt, stirring often, over medium heat. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and boil for 3 minutes.
Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla.
Pour caramel over crackers in the pan. Bake for 5 minutes.
Remove the pan from the oven -- the caramel will be bubbly and the crackers will be floating.
Top with chopped chocolate and allow to sit for 2 minutes before spreading to melt.
Allow to cool for 15 minutes before sprinkle with flaky salt if desired. Allow to cool completely before breaking or slicing. You can speed this up by placing it in the fridge!
Notes
Ingredients and Substitutions:Crackers: any kind of neutral flavored cracker works here! You can use graham crackers, pretzel thins or pretzel crackers, you name it. Chocolate: you can use semisweet chocolate for a sweeter flavor (trust me, the dark chocolate balances the sweetness nicely!), or chocolate chips if that's what you have -- although they don't melt as nicely.Salt: If using salted butter, I recommend unsalted crackers. If you're like me and you love a salty/sweet treat, I highly recommend a sprinkle of flaked salt. Wait until the chocolate has cooled some before adding it so it doesn't melt in.
